Melissa Jacobi – via the race web site:
I just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic day today, we've been intending to come and watch the Grand Prix for years but my husband always seems to be racing on the day. This year however as we've had twins (to add to the other children) he's taken a year off racing which meant we could get along to Lincoln.
I have to say the event was all I had expected it to be, excellently organised and great racing too.
Oh, and there was enough going on to keep our 6 month old twins captivated meaning we got to enjoy everything as well!
Many thanks, we'll be back!

Robin Wright – University of Lincoln:
Thank you Ian for the invite today, it was a absolutely superb event.

Chris Coyle – competitor:
Many thanks for letting me enter the Lincoln Grand Prix. I thought the event was brilliantly organised and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was in the last group to be black flagged (Lap 7 I think) after being held up on the climb on lap 2.
I would like to thank you and all your support staff for the hard work you have put in to running such an event, as a rider it’s much appreciated.
Thank you again and good luck for the race in 2011!

On Sunday, while Leicester City were unluckily losing to Cardiff, I was over in Lincoln for the superb Lincoln Grand Prix cycle race which was won by Olympic track medallist Chris Newton. Eleven laps of an eight mile circuit that includes the one in six cobbled climb to Castle Square in the city. Makes you out of breath just contemplating it!
I was really impressed by the Grand Prix, the atmosphere and the excellent backdrop provided by the city’s heritage, its castle and cathedral. It is good to see one of our East Midlands neighbours pulling out all the stops and putting on a tremendous sporting event.

Fiona Green – sponsor:
Congratulations on Sunday – a much bigger and better event that offered more than just watching the cyclists. As important and integral as that was, it was great to have other things of interest for attendees to do, watch, etc.
|
|
What a splendid occasion! We much enjoyed our day, watching all of the 11 laps, some from different vantage points. Thanks also to your wife and all the other helpers for looking after us, their tireless work adding to the success of the occasion.
I look forward to meeting up with you and your wife on a future occasion, perhaps in connect with the University.
Kindest regards to you and yours,
Mark Seaward, Bradford University

Thanks to all involved, another great day out watching the Lincoln GP
|

Great! It was a very good day all round, a large field of riders, well-handled race. Pity we don't get live TV coverage.
Maybe we could press hard for this for next year. But Eurosport 2 is a major start in the right direction.

Another incredible race! Thankyou so much for making this happen in Lincoln - the city is very lucky to have such a world class event!
I've probably missed this on the site, but when is the race coverage scheduled to appear on British Eurosport?
I'm a cycling fanatic, and also happen to be the Marketing Manager at Lincoln Drill Hall, so if there's anything I can do to help promote the event/get involved in any way for next year's race, please let me know.
All the best and thanks again!

Hi Ian
glad you liked the photos, I certainly enjoyed taking them. I found the race and setting to be very photogenic, and I'm just glad that I wasn't having to pedal up Michaelgate 11 times. It was a great day.

Hello Ian,
Thanks for putting on another excellent Lincoln Grand prix. I have been associated with your race since 1986 (as a rider, although I did not attend every year) and now as a manager, in sun , rain and wind. I always come away thinking that UK racing needs to take their cue from your event, then maybe we can really take cycle racing to the General public.
On behalf of KFS Cycling team please thank all your helpers and police for allowing the race such a safe passage -at all times.
Sporting regards,
Harry Lodge, DS. KFS Special Vehicles/Sunday Bicycles

Ian
What another brilliant Lincoln Grand Prix. I thought with an early start the crowds would be down but with the hot weather they turned out in flocks. Even Roger nearly lost his voice once or twice. I'm afraid he's getting a bit like Duffield on Eurosport these days.
Got the posters you sent me out just in time. Just an idea for you to take up – next year get some smaller flyers printed and get to every bike shop, sports centres, fitness clubs, schools, within 50 mile radius of Lincoln. Very disappointed that Look North didn't give the race a mention, where The Norton motorcycle Rally at Woodall Spa with 2000 spectators, got a space on Friday night's show.

We're just watching the Lincoln GP 2008 on Sky+
How fantastic to hear 'duffers' giving the commentary....!!!! So often the British races are so boring, he's giving 'life' to the race. People should appreciate him more as he IS the 'Murray Walker' of Cycling...!!!!!
Countryside and cuisine. If this sport is ever to become generally popular then 'Duffers' is the person to draw ordinary people to the sport. CHERISH HIM!

Sorry I didn't get chance to catch up with you.
Hope the event went well. Really enjoyed it and from what I can gather the riders did too (although they did find it hard!)
One of the team riders has very kindly forwarded me the final results (and I see they are also on the website)
Once again many thanks for all your help prior to the event.

To Ian and all the Organisation Crew at the Lincoln Grand Prix,
Thanks once again for putting on another well organised Lincoln Grand Prix. Despite the bad weather the event was a great promotional vehicle for the Sport of British Cycling.
I look forward to returning with my team again in 2008.

Dear Ian
Heartiest congratulations - despite the weather the race and organisation were a splendid success!
All 64 of my party from the Pedal Club and Lanterne Rouge are over the moon about the event and about your wonderful city of Lincoln.
We all had a cracking weekend and everyone from the hotel staff to pubs and shopkeepers were so very friendly and accommodating. An example of this is that we went into the deli/butchers in Bailgate on Saturday to ask whether we could buy sausages on Sunday. He said he would stay open until after the race so that we could pick them up on our way back to the cars. He clearly didn't realise just how popular Lincolnshire sausages are because five of our party each ordered 10lbs and most of the others 5lbs. This meant that he completely sold out and spent the duration of the race making up enough to meet the extra orders. Likewise, the manager of the Lion Snake was happy to keep his kitchen open until 3.00pm on Saturday to satisfy the 30+ riders who did the longer ride during the morning. Apparently he sold an extra 50+ lunches and several extra pints
This was undoubtedly the best supported Presidents weekend of the Pedal Club for many years and I am totally indebted to you and Sheila for your ideas, help and general assistance without which it would not have been possible. I know by the e-mails that have been flooding in this morning that all out party had a great time and it was an eye opener for those who had not previously witnessed the best and most spectator friendly Premier Calender Race in the country!
The Pedal Club meets at Charlies on the corner of Drury Lane WC2 for lunch on the second Wednesday of each month and I would be delighted for you to be my guest any time you can make it.
Best regards and many thanks
Mike

Thanks Ian,
Yes I understand the guests had an enjoyable day. Someone else from the team ended up dealing with the guests though, although we were down on numbers as some decided the weather forecast was not looking too good!
Thanks again

Dear Ian
I thought I would drop you a quick line to thank you for the kind hospitality received at yesterday's Lincoln Grand Prix, the damp conditions didn't spoil the spectacle, and I hope everything ran according to plan. Please pass on my best regards to Sheila, and everyone else involved at the Magna Carta

Hi Ian,
I just wanted to say thank you for all you've done to organise and promote the best (and hardest!) race I've ever ridden. It was a battle out there but we had a fantastic HQ, friendly and helpful volunteers, no traffic problems at all and a fast and safe race. I loved every minute of it, although in the last few metres of Michaelgate, I might have cursed a couple of times!
Thanks again for all your hard work, it doesn't go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
See you next year!
James Whatling, PCA/Ciclos Uno

Thanks Ian.
Photos are great because its a great race and one I don't think I have taken full advantage of yet as I am never as fully prepared for the weather as I should be. If you want a CD, let me know where to send and I'll get one to you.
thanks

I hope the hassle has now calmed down and given you an insight of how successful the Lincoln race was. I thought it was a fabulous event and worthy of all the effort everybody, especially yourself, put into it.

I would like to thank on behalf of Team Rapha Condor (Deano, Matt, Ben,G-star, Ross and all Rapha Condor support staff) the Velo Club Lincoln club for the organisation of the race, but more importantly the verbal support for me and my team mates.
The difference it makes is amazing, and we managed to pull of a famous victory in some really really really tough conditions.
As you can see from the photos and the tears at the finish, it is more than just winning another bike race, its winning the Lincoln GP!!!!!! and the Velo Club Lincoln was a part of contributing to this amazing victory!!!
Thanks All
Richard and Team
